Profile of a Graduate

At the point of graduation from Bishop Maginn High School, a graduate:

Character Development:

  1. Has begun to develop his/her moral character through the fostering of Christian beliefs and lifestyle based on the beliefs and teachings of Jesus Christ.
  2. Has begun to develop a consistent work ethic.
  3. Has gained a sense of self-discipline based on reasonable and insistent expectations set forth by the school community.
  4. Is prepared to enter into society at large and can demonstrate good citizenship and very often, leadership in the community.
  5. Displays levels of personal integrity and responsibility.
  6. Has developed social skills with people of all backgrounds.
  7. Has a more developed sense of justified self-esteem as a result of academic accomplishment and personal achievement.
  8. Displays individual responsibility both academically, spiritually, and socially and has a clear understanding of accountability.
  9. Through the sense of community established at Bishop Maginn, the graduate has a greater sense of belonging and contributing positively to a community.

Academic Development:

  1. Is able to read and comprehend sophisticated material at least at the level of a beginning college freshman.
  2. Is able to listen, speak, read, and write for critical analysis and evaluation.
  3. Has mastered fundamental skills in using oral and written language to present, opinions and judgments on experiences, ideas and information.
  4. Understands and can apply scientific concepts, principles, and theories pertaining to the physical setting and living environment.
  5. Is mathematically confident by communicating and reasoning mathematically, by applying mathematics in real-world settings, and by solving problems through the integrated study of number systems.
  6. Demonstrates a clear understanding of world history and the geography of the interdependent world in which we live.
  7. Exhibits an understanding of how the United States and other societies develop and use economic systems.
  8. Has learned the concept of governmental systems of the United States and other nations and the basic civic values of American constitutional democracy.
  9. Is able to respond critically to a variety of works in the arts, connecting the individual work to other works and to other aspects of human endeavor and thought.
  10. Has developed cross-cultural skills and understandings.
  11. Is able to use a language other than English for communication.
  12. Is developing a curiosity to explore ideas and be creative.
  13. Is proficient in the use of computer technology, including word processing, spreadsheets, and internet capabilities.
  14. Can present a convincing argument in written and oral form.
  15. Takes pride and ownership in school accomplishments.
  16. Is beginning to enjoy intellectual and aesthetic pursuits.

Interpersonal Skills:

  1. Has a growing appreciation of other cultures and has gained the ability of working on teams with peers from culturally diverse backgrounds.
  2. Has developed an appreciation of opinions and attitudes of others and a spirit of acceptance has been fostered.
  3. Is developing the qualities of leadership and responsibility needed for personal and professional growth.
  4. Demonstrates respect towards the opinions and attitudes of others. Is able to accept responsibility of his/her own actions.
