Profile of a Graduate
At the point of graduation from Bishop Maginn High School, a graduate:
Character Development:
- Has begun to develop his/her moral character through the fostering of Christian beliefs and lifestyle based on the beliefs and teachings of Jesus Christ.
- Has begun to develop a consistent work ethic.
- Has gained a sense of self-discipline based on reasonable and insistent expectations set forth by the school community.
- Is prepared to enter into society at large and can demonstrate good citizenship and very often, leadership in the community.
- Displays levels of personal integrity and responsibility.
- Has developed social skills with people of all backgrounds.
- Has a more developed sense of justified self-esteem as a result of academic accomplishment and personal achievement.
- Displays individual responsibility both academically, spiritually, and socially and has a clear understanding of accountability.
- Through the sense of community established at Bishop Maginn, the graduate has a greater sense of belonging and contributing positively to a community.
Academic Development:
- Is able to read and comprehend sophisticated material at least at the level of a beginning college freshman.
- Is able to listen, speak, read, and write for critical analysis and evaluation.
- Has mastered fundamental skills in using oral and written language to present, opinions and judgments on experiences, ideas and information.
- Understands and can apply scientific concepts, principles, and theories pertaining to the physical setting and living environment.
- Is mathematically confident by communicating and reasoning mathematically, by applying mathematics in real-world settings, and by solving problems through the integrated study of number systems.
- Demonstrates a clear understanding of world history and the geography of the interdependent world in which we live.
- Exhibits an understanding of how the United States and other societies develop and use economic systems.
- Has learned the concept of governmental systems of the United States and other nations and the basic civic values of American constitutional democracy.
- Is able to respond critically to a variety of works in the arts, connecting the individual work to other works and to other aspects of human endeavor and thought.
- Has developed cross-cultural skills and understandings.
- Is able to use a language other than English for communication.
- Is developing a curiosity to explore ideas and be creative.
- Is proficient in the use of computer technology, including word processing, spreadsheets, and internet capabilities.
- Can present a convincing argument in written and oral form.
- Takes pride and ownership in school accomplishments.
- Is beginning to enjoy intellectual and aesthetic pursuits.
Interpersonal Skills:
