Guidance

The Guidance and Counseling Department at Bishop Maginn High School provides a variety of services in the areas of personal, academic, career and college counseling.  We provide resources to help students become strong responsible citizens who are well prepared for a diverse and ever changing world.  The purpose of the Guidance and Counseling Department is:

  • To assist students in effectively handling personal and academic problems.
  • To help the student make a realistic evaluation of his/her interests and goals.
  • To assist students in attaining maximum personal and intellectual growth.
  • To help the student make the best college/career choice according to their needs, skills, abilities, and interests.

Counselors spend the majority of their time working directly with students. Through individual counseling and guidance seminars, counselors address the developmental needs of students and provide crisis intervention. They are also in frequent communication with faculty, staff and parents in order to coordinate services and provide an optimum school experience for all students.

The Bishop Maginn High School curriculum offers a wide range of rich and varied opportunities to our students.  Our mission is to provide our students with an enriched learning environment connecting academics and extracurricular activities.  The scheduling of classes for the next academic year begins in February and concludes at the end of the school year. Students are navigated through the scheduling process by their Guidance Counselor. We encourage every student to take ownership of their education and to seek advice of parents, teachers, and peers when choosing their courses for next year.
