STUDENT LEARNING CONTRACT FOR ALL ART CLASSES

 

EXPECTATIONS, PHILOSOPHY AND GOALS

Ms. Warburton

  1. Students will participate in a program of art instruction that will include aesthetics, art criticism, art history and making art.

 

  1. Students will be encouraged to express their ideas, personal feelings, creativity, imagination and opinions about art both visually and verbally.

 

  1. Our goals are to develop skills in which students will learn new ways of problem solving, awareness, perception and discipline that will enhance their performance in traditional academic subject areas. Every opportunity to utilize cross-curricular instruction will be taken.

 

4.   Students will be encouraged to take advantage of opportunities to enter their work in

competitions, shows and displays in the community. Credit will be given to students who visit

museums or galleries independently. Art awards will be given at the end of the school year.

 

5.  Students will be expected to be on time and ready to work upon arrival in the classroom

or to continue an ongoing project. Each student will be responsible for cleanup of their

work area and for storing their work in their personal portfolios. Students will not be permitted to

leave the classroom until this has been accomplished.

Materials and supplies are not to be removed from the art classroom.

A one-subject spiral notebook and pen is required for every class.

 

6.  There will be periodic written assignments, assessments and quizzes throughout the school year.

 

7. Cell phones, I pods, CD players, or electronic equipment of any kind are not permitted in

the art classroom and WILL BE CONFISCATED. Gum, candy, food or beverages are not

to be brought into the classroom.

 

8.   Students enrolled in Drawing must provide their own sketchbook which is to be brought to

class every day. Homework assignments will be given to be done in the sketchbook.The     sketchbook review will be part of the final grade.

 

9.  Student performance will be evaluated using a rubric of 1 to 4.

 

4 = Excellent (90 to 100) Student has followed directions, become engaged in the task, put forth substantial effort, shown exceptional creative thinking and has completed the assigned project.

3 = Good (80 to 89) Student has not always worked to the best of their ability, or exhibited consistent effort, although they have adequately completed the assignment. Student generally follows directions, although effort may be inconsistent.

2 = Fair (70 to 79) Student has demonstrated minimal effort. Project may or may not have been completed according to guidelines.

1 = Unsatisfactory (below 70) Student has not shown any effort or engagement

 

10. Class Participation = 50% of grade, Assessments & Quizzes = 25%of grade,

Homework & Portfolio Evaluation = 25% of grade
